My curiosity !!!

From being into the legal field to becoming a Stained glass artist (Original Stained glass - Tiffany style!!! thats important!!) it has indeed been a colourful journey... in fact this is just a start :)  Absolutely love what I do, love my each creation, excited about each piece I craft and nothing like fusing smiles and exclamations on the faces of friends and clients... it means more than fusing lead onto the Glass.
Anyways... would love to share a small experience through my blog here. Its about my curiosity. My  'Narcissistic personality disorder' infected 'Curiosity'. After reading the latest article about 'Glasshopper' and 'Me' on Citizenmatters.in/ Bangalore. Heres the link - http://bangalore.citizenmatters.in/articles/view/2700-stained-glass-glasshopper  dated 18th January 2011, today I curiously typed 'Glasshopper' in the Google search box. First search was my website and Map to my studio in defense colony, my facebook page, my twitter link, an article on me when I was featured in 'Time Out', Bangalore and many other things related to my work. "I am growing... Wow!!!" - a positive thought made me smile. The common thing that one reads in all the articles written on Me (Time Out, DNA, Citizen matters, Femina etc) that I am NOT an artist. Yes! Thats true and I am Not ashamed to say that. I create, The idea behind each product is mine, I am clear what I want to create and what should be the size, glass and colours involved, I make several ugly designs, cut hundreds of pieces and fuse till I do not come up with What I exactly want... but the only thing I lack is Drawing! I Can't Draw or sketch my thoughts on paper (only a meek rough design ) I ask my friends Girija, Mayuresh, Debu, Anuja to help me with drawing, spend hours on it till I start my work and then create a glass article with that.
Anyway... getting back to the Google search, I happened to read a link about Glasshopper which I never knew existed. I mean.. come on.. My Narcissist curiosity has always been there... and how come I did not see this :o ???
A lady named Lakshmi Nagarajan who writes Blogs on Interior design called 'Dress up your Homes' (rated among the best interior design blogs around : o)  had written about Glasshopper. No Homework done, No contact with the artist (probably even did not know whether the artist is a male/ female/ young/ old/ dead/ alive/ whatever) :) She stumbled upon my website (coz the my work pictures she has uploaded on her Blog... are downloaded from my website ) further comparing my one year old work to another famous and thoroughly skilled artist, making it loud and clear about her 'Illiteracy' in differentiating an original Stained Glass panel from a Glass painting. Although she promptly mentions that she has Not seen my work personally, so why write incorrect things if you have no knowledge about the artists' work???  Miss Dress your Home... why write if you do not know the artist in person and if you do not wish to check with the artist before writing about Him/ Her or their works??? Why write Random blogs? Is that why your Blog is one of the top searched ones??? What makes you say that My work may be paintings and  NOT original stained Glass?  Learn to check your findings if you are NOT sure... don't blame it on the textures and photos of my art.. claiming that they are NOT CLEAR.
Every artist, however Big or small, famous, poor, whimsical, crazy, steady... deserves Credit for his work. Let the Art speak. I give credit to each of my friends who draw these beautiful things that I make, to the people who work with me at Glasshopper. Its difficult and it is a struggle to be recognized for your art work especially when you give up a super cushioned Job to cut glass :)

Friends,
Here is the link to the article - http://www.dressyourhome.in/2010/06/29/glasshopper-another-glass-studio-in-indira-nagar/

Ooopsss... End of the day, I am the same old Legal practitioner :P fighting for Art this time :P :P and finally - "Ignorance is Bliss... but Curiosity  is lethal... it murders Ignorance" - Thats my line :P
All you people - Be creative!!! :)

All about Original Stained Glass!

A little history about "Stained Glass" put together by me for Glasshopper and for all the readers :)
Read along....

......And God said, " Let there be light". And Man used this light to his own advantage. Man needed shelter but he found this to be dark, so he made windows to let in the light. As time progressed, man being a creative being, built huge cathedrals and enhanced them with great, glimmering stained glass windows that threw rainbow light down into deep, dim interiors and inspired awe among medieval worshipers. The massive Gothic cathedrals in Europe, such as  'Chartres' in France, which has been in existence for the last 800 years, is a classic example. In the middle east, architects delighted in coloured glass and mosaic work. The Mosques of the Arab world shimmer with sensuous, sparkling light, expressing the poetry and the passion of Islamic culture.

Anyone who has encountered the beautiful stained glass windows displayed in Cathedrals, will have marveled at the glorious colours of glass and the skill of the craftsmen. Today more and more people are discovering these skills for themselves. In the past, plain glass was painted with special glass paints which actually stained the glass when fired. This is why the term  "stained glass" came into being. This is different to just painting on glass with glass paints as is used today. This is just a cheap copy of the real stained glass. Today coloured glass panels, lampshades etc are made using factory produced coloured glass which are cut to size, manually according to the design and then put together. In the early days, glass pieces had to be put together with thick lead channels, soldered together. Lead by it very nature cannot be bent for very small piece, so instead the details were painted in on larger pieces of glass, fired to make it permanent and then leaded.

Towards the end of the 19th century the American architect and designer 'Loise Comfort tiffany', changed the way stained glass looked and the way it was made. His craftsmen in the Tiffany studios in America found that the traditional lead was too inflexible to handle tiny pieces of glass, so instead they wrapped each piece of glass in a thin strip of copper before assembling and soldering it. This enabled them to make highly detailed and intricate designs in glass, especially the famous lamps, which are synonymous with Tiffany's name. Copper foiling has become one of the most popular methods of assembling glass in recent years, and its versatility allows you to create a variety of decorative household objects with glass especially three dimensional ones.

'X'mas 2009... upcoming events.

Its been a year since I wrote my first blog to introduce Glasshopper. :( Haven't been writing at all. The year 2009 which still continues to be.... has been really busy for me. Some bigger projects of stained glass panels in Bangalore... mainly restaurants has kept the ball rolling.
Glasshopper has extended its work in Pune and Hyderabad too :) feels good to have done projects outside Bangalore before Glasshopper gets a year old.
Its year end and Christmas is on its way.... and I wanna welcome it with unique Christmas tree hangings and hampers in Glass painting and stained glass. You can see my work being displayed at The 'Community Services Bangalore' Christmas Bazar at the 'Lalit Ashok', Bangalore on the 1st December 2009 and also at a fairly bigger Christmas bazaar event hosted by 'The Overseas Women's Club', Bangalore at 'The St. Marks Cathedral' on 5th December 2009 from morning 10 till evening 5.00 p.m. :)
It is more challenging to craft the little things in glass than the bigger panels.... its the test of your neatness, cleanliness and cutting of glass and I simply love doing that.

Hope to continue writing....
Do hop in for the events mentioned. :)

a new beginning with GlassHoppers

Perhaps you know the story of Michelangelo, to whom a painting was brought by a young painter for his comment. Michelangelo merely changed the shape of the eyebrows and eyes. This radically changed the portrait. Said the painter, “You made so small changes.” Exclaimed Michelangelo,” Small things make the difference.”
Against the backdrop of Architecture, stained glass may appear a small thing that if captured colours, it adds grace to the architecture and changes the aura and the internal vibrations of the Vastu.

Started by Tiffany, it is now accepted by all those who want to beautify their homes – without making it look gaudy. Those who want to beautify their homes by just doing small things are now turning to the use of Stained glass. It can be on any one of the windows, entrance doors, kitchen or ceiling to imbues the Vastu with soothing colours.

May I invite you at Glasshoppers to witness our effort in stained glass work?
Little gift ideas in stained glass to beautiful and unique lamps, something unusual and unique out of scraps to large window panels, glass panels, cabinets and huge lanterns.

Please come. Let us exchange ideas on how we can be creative in our own way. My medium is glass... let us find yours.
